- This scholarship requires students to submit an essay about their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with a student organization at WCU or community organization.
Recipients are strongly encouraged to attend the annual African American Alumni Society reception, which is generally held in conjunction with Homecoming. Additionally, recipients are encouraged to remain active members of the African American Alumni Society following graduation. Recipients are also invited to join the African American Alumni Society social media platforms and engage with the Society in their work at WCU.

- Primary preference given to members of the Zeta Omicron chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity (WCU chapter) or descendants of a member
- In the event that no qualified member or legacy member can be identified, preference will be given to other deserving undergraduate students. Factors in consideration may include participation in WCU intercollegiate sports, military service, or financial need.
- Fulltime enrollment (12 credit hours each semester)
- No sanctions in place at the time of award
